Security Doors- How to select the best one for your security needs

The crime rate in many parts of Australia is slowly increasing, despite increased warnings and penalties. Whether you live in a high-end area or one with mostly those of lower socioeconomic backgrounds, it is likely that crime in the form of robberies, assaults and domestic violence is always apparent. Increased rates of crime mean that people are even more concerned for their own safety and the safety of their families.

You may work long hours with your family by themselves overnight, or you may have young children whom you have to leave at home alone for some period of time. Whatever the reason may be, you will want to ensure that your home is safe from being broken into. Most homes have wooden and glass doors, which are easy for criminals to make their way into using various methods. You can simply install a highly durable safety door that provides a strong barrier of protection. However, security doors also come in various types and price ranges, which you should research carefully before making this important decision.

Types of security doors

  • Marine Grade Steel Mesh: These are manufactured using stainless steel mesh. which is not only highly durable but also resistant to corrosion; hence, it will last you many years. This type of mesh cannot be easily ripped or broken and can also be coated in a colour of your choice. This means that you can choose a colour that doesn't diminish from the aesthetic of your home.
  • Structural Grade Steel Mesh: This type of steel mesh is stronger than marine grade and includes a polymer coating, which is even more resistant to corrosion. Furthermore, structure-grade steel has high tensile strength and is thicker than marine-grade steel mesh security doors.
  • Aluminium: These are made using aluminium sheets, which have many holes drilled into them and are then coated with paint. These are also quite strong and powerful and are increasingly being preferred, owing to their superior ability to resist corrosion. Aluminium doors are also lighter in weight and available in a wide range of styles and designs.

Security doors need to fixed properly

Along with selecting the right security door, you also need to decide what kind of fixing system you will use to bolt the door in place. A loose security screen will not be safe, no matter how strong the material is. This is why it is important to ensure that installation is only done by a professional who uses the right equipment to correctly install the security door.

About Me

Harold's Home and Garden Advice

Hello! I'm Harold, and I am a very keen gardener and home DIY enthusiast. I started this blog as a result of a conversation I had with a friend. We were chatting with each other about the latest jobs we were planning to complete. I was giving my friend some tips when he suggested that I write a series of articles so I could pass on my wisdom to others. I learnt all about home and garden DIY from a local contractor who used to complete work for me. Eventually, I realised I knew enough to carry out the work myself.
