The Benefits of Slatted Window Treatments

In a country which sees many hours of sunshine, like Australia, blocking out the strongest rays makes a lot of sense. However, you also want enough light to come into your home so that you can see what you are doing. In such circumstances, roller blinds and pairs of curtains can be a little ineffective. As window treatments, they are very much all-or-nothing options. However, slatted window treatments offer a great deal more flexibility in all light conditions. Why should you consider slatted internal shutters or Venetian blinds for your home?

Fine Control Mechanisms

If you look at either the adjustable louvres of internal shutters or the pitch controller of Venetian blinds, then you will notice they have something in common. Whether you have them horizontally deployed, set into a vertical position, or adjusted somewhere in between, you have a fine degree of control over how much light is let in. If you want to open up your room for lots of light, then you can open them fully or raise them up entirely. For partial light control, you can drop them and then angle your slats so that they allow sunlight in without causing too much unwanted glare. Being in full control of the ambient light in your home is a big advantage of slatted window treatments, whether you have a large expanse of north-facing glazing or a much smaller window that faces south.

Maintain Complete Privacy

Of course, being able to alter the angle of the slats of your blinds is not simply about blocking out light. You can also use these control mechanisms to prevent prying eyes from being able to look into your home from the outside. Set at the right angle, they can allow light in without allowing a view in. One of the problems with other sorts of window treatments is that they won't prevent a clear line of sight from an upstairs window of a neighbouring residence. With slats, this is no longer an issue, and you can enjoy complete privacy when you want it without having to turn your lights off inside.

Avoid Overheating and Overspending

Most Australian households have bigger utility bills than they'd like. However, with slatted shutters or Venetian blinds, you can block out much of the sun's heat energy, thereby allowing you to use your air conditioning less. In turn, this means that your choice of blinds will often pay for themselves within a few years of being fitted.

Harold's Home and Garden Advice

Hello! I'm Harold, and I am a very keen gardener and home DIY enthusiast. I started this blog as a result of a conversation I had with a friend. We were chatting with each other about the latest jobs we were planning to complete. I was giving my friend some tips when he suggested that I write a series of articles so I could pass on my wisdom to others. I learnt all about home and garden DIY from a local contractor who used to complete work for me. Eventually, I realised I knew enough to carry out the work myself.
