4 Ways That Awnings Can Benefit Your Children in Severe Weather

Outdoor play is a chance for children to learn social skills. It's also a time for children to exercise and get needed fresh air. According to research, only 8% of children in Australia now play outside each day! But as a parent, you need to provide your children with a safe and comfortable outdoor environment — whatever the weather.

Installing awnings above the windows outside where your children play will give your children more freedom to play and learn outdoors. Awnings also keep your children safe and dry should the weather turn extreme.

If you have young children and you want to encourage them to play outside more, consider the following benefits of awnings.

1. Outdoor Fun Even When It Rains

Rain is a good excuse for children to stay in and play on their phones these days. That's understandable. But this means your children won't get the exercise they need. Nor will they improve their social skills or give their imaginations time to explore the world outside of their phone.

But with a strategically placed awning, you can provide your children with a place to play even in wet weather. In fact, sitting and playing under an awning while the rain is pouring down is a great opportunity for your children to learn about nature.

2. Storage for Wet Shoes and Clothes

Awnings are a great temporary storage area for soaking wet shoes and clothes. Instead of ruining your carpet, your children can store their wet things outside, under the awning. This is useful for when it suddenly starts to rain while your children are playing outdoors.

3. Shelter From Sudden Hailstorms

Hailstorms can strike without warning in Australia. If your children are in your backyard and a hailstorm rolls in, they can quickly take shelter under your awning. This will protect them from harm and give them somewhere to stand and watch the show in safety.

4. Protection From the Harsh Sun

Children burn much more easily than adults do in the harsh sun. This effect is even worse in Australia during the summer, because during this season, Australia is closer to the sun than places like Europe are. This means young children are exposed to more UV radiation than usual. But with an awning in place, your children will have somewhere to play in the shade, where they won't suffer severe sunburn.

If you'd like your children to play outside more often, but worry about the weather sometimes, then install an awning. This will give your children a convenient and safe place to play.

About Me

Harold's Home and Garden Advice

Hello! I'm Harold, and I am a very keen gardener and home DIY enthusiast. I started this blog as a result of a conversation I had with a friend. We were chatting with each other about the latest jobs we were planning to complete. I was giving my friend some tips when he suggested that I write a series of articles so I could pass on my wisdom to others. I learnt all about home and garden DIY from a local contractor who used to complete work for me. Eventually, I realised I knew enough to carry out the work myself.
