Three Not So Obvious Signs That You Might Need To Replace Your Window

Windows are crucial to the overall design and feel of your home, especially during summer days when you want nothing more than to soak up every last ray. With summer coming up in a few months, now could be a great time to get that old window fixed up or replaced. However, a lot of people don't know the warning signs of when a window should be replaced and why they should do it sooner rather than later. Here are three not so obvious signs that you might want to consider window replacement in your home or at your business.

Pit Marks

While more common on car windshields because the wind hitting your car is faster than the average wind that will affect your home, some house windows do still pick up pit marks. These are tiny little holes and cracks in your window that occur because small pieces of aggregate, whether it be sand, a tiny little piece of bark or even something like a small pebble, hit your window, stick in it and slowly create a deeper problem. This is particularly an issue for windows on beachside houses where salt spray in the air can be very problematic. If you have a lot of these pit marks that aren't coming out, a window replacement might be the best course of action before your window breaks.

Warped Window

Over time it is common for frames of windows to start getting bent out of shape. This can be from many numerous factors from the wooden frame around it swelling to poor installation in the first place, and even sometimes can be caused by termites (so get that checked out!). If your window is harder to open than it used to be, or you can visibly see the frame bending in a way that it didn't before, then it might not be long before it cracks or gets worse enough for a breeze to start coming in.

Badly Stained Windows

If you have moved into a new place, and you can tell that the previous owner was a smoker or just never looked after the windows, then you will have a hard time cleaning them to a level you would be happy with. Windows can get permanently stained if they are left long enough in poor conditions. While it is frustrating, and you might go through several bottles of cleaning liquid first, most people come to the conclusion that window replacement is the best option for a fresh start.

About Me

Harold's Home and Garden Advice

Hello! I'm Harold, and I am a very keen gardener and home DIY enthusiast. I started this blog as a result of a conversation I had with a friend. We were chatting with each other about the latest jobs we were planning to complete. I was giving my friend some tips when he suggested that I write a series of articles so I could pass on my wisdom to others. I learnt all about home and garden DIY from a local contractor who used to complete work for me. Eventually, I realised I knew enough to carry out the work myself.
